Have you ever had the experience of talking to yourself and you thought you were alone, but when you turned around you found that someone was watching you?
How did you feel in that moment? Like you wanted to disappear? For the Earth to open up and swallow you?
This is the exact feeling we experience on-camera for a very good scientific reason.
Talking to yourself is an act of being crazy and our brain has an ancient fear that if people find out that we are crazy, they will cut us off from village, and we'll have to wander the wilderness, and die alone.
Our brain isn't living in 2019, our brain is living thousands of years in the past, in a time when we all lived in small villages and tribes for mutual protection.
When you are on-camera, in reality, you are talking to yourself.
Your brain doesn't want you to make a video, it thinks that doing this is social suicide!
Your brain then puts you into fight or flight mode, this is why you become nervousness and fearful on camera.
Your brain is trying to save you.
This fear is a REAL fear with REAL world consequences.
Our survival instincts is still our strongest instinct, NOT only for our physical survival but also for our social survival.
And our brain will stop at NOTHING to save you.
Even if it means sabotaging your career and your success.
If there is a chance to save your life by sabotaging your ambitions, then your brain will do it.
Your brain will happily play the villain if it means saving your life
Keep in mind that money is a man-made concept, and our brain has no idea why this is important to us.
Our brain doesn't care about your profits.
Our brain only cares about your survival.
REMEMBER that if you are in an accident, your brain will shut off the function of some of your organs if it means keeping your vital organs going.
Your brain views being on-camera as a dangerous situation for your personal safety.
I want to make one thing ABSOLUTELY CLEAR! None of this is your fault.
While some people can easily get on-camera, they just already learned how to disable this survival instinct.
But they are not you, and you are not them.
Take pride in knowing that your brain is working like it should, it is doing it's job.
And the ONLY WAY to disable this survival instinct is to let your brain know that you are actually safe on-camera.
When you are able to do this, then all of your problems with being on-camera will vanish as though it was never there
This survival instinct comes from our subconscious and unconscious mind. It's NOT a logical thought, it's an emotional response.
When you try to convince yourself logically that you shouldn't be fearful or nervous about being on-camera, that has the same effect as telling yourself that you shouldn't love someone.
That never worked and it will never work. The same goes for your on-camera fear.
You can only use emotions to talk to emotions.
The human brain DOES NOT want you to make videos.
Your brain is actively trying to divert your attention from what you want to say. Your brain ONLY wants one thing.
Your brain wants you to FOCUS on running away from the camera.
This is why you go blank on-camera.
You can't solve this problem until you've trained your brain to understand that you are NOT in any physical or social danger.
Because the human brain is actively trying to redirect your energy towards running away form the camera, this creates another problem.
In order to stay in front of the camera, you have to force yourself through will-power to continue talking as though nothing happening underneath the surface.
And this is the moment where you have to fake your personality, NOT because you are a fake person.
But because your brain is sucking your energy and focus in trying to get you to do something you don't want to do.
This is the moment, that makes you feel like an impostor
The feeling of being nervous on-camera is universal for a very GOOD scientific reason.
Your brain is putting you in fight or flight mode in an attempt to amp you to run away from making the video.
The nervousness you feel is the effect of your brain signaling your body to get away from the camera.
This is NOT your fault
Your brain doesn't care about profits, it ONLY cares about your survival.
When your brain puts you fight or flight mode because it wants you to run away from the camera, something else also happens..
Your natural conversational energy is being sucked out as well.
Being conversational is a social tool, and in a moment of survival, your brain isn't trying to be social.
No one can be conversational while in fight or flight mode.
Fight or flight mode is ONLY triggered when your survival depends on it.
And since the human brain puts you in fight or flight mode, and your energy is being redirected, this leaves very little energy towards doing a presentation.
This is why people try to "psych" themselves up before shooting a video .
But something else that also adds to this problem
When you are talking to the camera, you are in fact talking to yourself.
However, talking to yourself in never a positive and energetic experience. No one talks to themselves with a positive vibe.
These two dynamics hammers your energy and conviction into the ground.
The camera DOES NOT lie. What you give to the camera, it will capture it as it is and present it to your audience.
And when you have compensate for your brain's effort to sabotage your video, that is the moment when you unwittingly give into "FAKING IT".
NOT because you are a fake person, but because the brain is your enemy.
This stops you from being authentically yourself, and everyone's intuition will know that you are being disingenuous.
Even if it was not your intention.
You need to realize and accept one fact, your brain is your BIGGEST enemy. Your brain is an unethical enemy.
Your brain will stop at nothing to get you to stop recording.
Your brain will demean you.
Your brain will dehumanize you.
Your brain will destroy your self-worth.
Your brain will scream at you, "you are stupid!" in an attempt to get you off of the camera. And you know what? it works!
When you are talking face-to-face with someone, you can read their expressions to know if they agree or disagree with what you're saying.
This allows you to adjust course and explain any misunderstand that might lead to an altercation.
But with video, you don't have this luxury, what you say can't be change later.
And this is where our brain pulls out all of the stops and jumps in a desperate effort to stop us from making a video of us talking to ourselves.
Our brain doesn't care if it has to self-inflect emotional pain for the "greater good" of not risking social suicide.
The MOST important thing we need to do when making videos is to replicate an in-person experience of having a conversation with us.
This means that when we making a video, we need to make our audience feel as though we are speaking directly to them.
If you don't look at someone when you are speaking to them, they will start to ignore you and leave that conversation.
The same exact thing will happen when people see your video.
We all have a desire to be seen, it makes us feel acknowledged. We don't want to be just another face in the crowd. This is just human nature.
Our objective is to destroy the nervousness that comes with being on-camera, and instead project a warm and approachable vibe.
What is the point of doing video if you are projecting the wrong energy?
or the wrong vibe?
If "your vibe attracts your tribe", then who are you going to attract with a nervous and fearful vibe?
Most of the time when we are talking on-camera, we are talking about things that are not in front of us or things that we can't see or touch, like concepts.
These things are difficult to speak about with conviction especially since the camera will strip that conviction away because you are talking to yourself in a video.
You need to speak with the belief and conviction that'll make your audience hold onto every one of your words.
You need to remember one VERY important thing..
If you don't believe in the thing that you are talking about, then you can't expect others to believe it.
The BIGGEST struggle with being on-camera is NOT being able to fully accept the image of ourselves we see on the screen.
Deep within our own mind, we have a different image of ourselves, and this internal image never ages, its frozen in time.
And overtime, there is a mismatch between this unageing internal image and our external age image.
When we realign these two images, we will develop a deeper appreciation for who we are.
Everyone else has already accepted you and your image. Except for you, you haven't accepted this as yet.
The moment we allow our brain to fully accept our image and we've managed to disable our survival instincts that makes us want to run from the camera..
That is the moment when our natural personal will shine on-camera without effort.
Who you are off-camera should be the exact same person who you are on-camera.
Our goal is to get you to a state where you are having the same natural and fun conversation face-to-face conversation on-camera.
Have your ever noticed how easy it is to get someone to let our their natural and genuine smile when they aren't on-camera?
The camera makes us self-conscious and it sucks the happiness out of our smiles.
You already have that natural and warm smile inside of you.
We don't need to add or do anything special.
Instead, your authentic smile is going to EFFORTLESSLY come out on-camera when you disable that survival instincts.
No need to fake anything, you are already enough.
Do you think babies suffer from the fear of judgement? Of course not!
But this isn't because they're babies, it's because of the science of how fear of judgement works.
The Fear of Judgement happens when you imagining visuals and the sounds associated with an outcome that you don't want.
This fear runs on your imagination in your head through your sense of sight and hearing.
All we have to do is destroy those imaginary signals in your mind and BOOM! The fear of judgement will be destroy!
The Fear of Judgement runs on exactly the same principles as the Fear of Judgement.
Everything is inside your head, I am giving you the tools that you need to fix these problems at the root level.
When we do that, then we are destroying these negative unwanted emotions at their source.
We are NOT going to ignore the problem, we are NOT going to cover it up with a band-aid!
We are taking the fight to the source of these fears and crushing them once and for all!
Our Internal negative self talk occurs when our brain believes that we are not capable of accomplishing something even when it's the some easily accomplishable
It doesn't this because it thinks it's protecting us from disappointment and emotional hurt.
And this Internal Negative Self Talk amplifies even more when we fixate on the the outcome of the situation.
Especially when we tie our emotions to the outcome of the situation.
We are going to annihilate these emotional expectations at the root.
Just like Internal Negative Self Talk, our inner doubts rears it's UGLY head when we fantasize about the outcome of a situation!
And we attach our emotional dependency on what will happen.
We are going to smash this plague where it grows!
We are going to disrupt this the signals in our brains that gives life to these disgusting negative unwanted thoughts.
And in doing so, you won't experience inner doubt because you can't experience something when it doesn't exist in your mind.
Everyday for 21 days, you will spend 5 minutes practicing the EMOTION HACKING techniques before recording a practice video.
The techniques will hack pass your emotional system to immediately start shifting the way your brain is actively blocking you from being your natural authentic self in your videos.
It is a good practice (but not mandatory) to perform these techniques first thing in the morning since it will put you in a fantastic mood to set your day on a positive track.
The video training takes about an hour to watch, you only need to watch it once, after which you can just use the provided PDF for a quick refresher if you forgot the steps for the EMOTION HACKING techniques.
After you have practiced the emotion hacking techniques that will allow you to become comfortable and confident, you need to do something with your new found superpower.
This is where the practice videos comes into play.
Everyday for 21 days, there is a fun question that will be provided for you to record yourself answering using the camera on your smartphone.
The question allows you to become even more relaxed and it will also allow your natural conversational tone to flow without effort.
Working through any course by yourself is challenging, but it doesn't have to be that way.
That is why I created a private Facebook support group to help you connect with a community of like-minded individuals who are all working towards a common transformational goal.
Especially, if you need to find someone to partner up with and to keep you accountable.
